A 21-year-old was arrested early on Tuesday on charges of recording the encounter he had with deputies during a traffic stop without permission.
Carl Paul, of Pompano Beach, is charged with illegal interception of communication.
Pulled over by a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputy shortly after midnight near Hypoluxo and Highridge roads in Lantana, Paul questioned the traffic stop and recorded the conversation with deputies on his phone, according to arrest records.

Paul asked the deputies for their names while his iPhone sat on his leg. When the deputies noticed that Paul was recording the conversation, he said he was “documenting what was happening,” the affidavit stated.
Paul was informed he did not have the deputies’ permission to record, a violation of state law, and was arrested after he did not stop recording.
